Integrity Life Sciences Points Us At Its Two US Patents

Following recent press release announcing the FDA approval of its Spinal Care Systems, which can be found here, Integrity Life Sciences has issued a press release announcing that it is the owner of two US Patents.

Background

Integrity Life Sciences delivers a multitude of orthotic treatment options to address one of the most costly systemic ailments in the world, chronic low back and neck pain. Integrity’s product line includes the aforementioned Integrity Spinal Care System (ISCS 2.0) and The Lombare System. Both are non-surgical spinal decompression therapy systems engineered to provide pain relief for compressive and degenerative conditions of the spine. It is these systems to which the patents pertain.

Specifically, conditions that may be treated include: neck pain and back pain associated with herniated discs, protruding discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome, and sciatica. The fundamental goal of Integrity’s systems is to achieve these effects through decompression of intervertebral discs by effectively unloading them with a combination of distraction and positioning.

Abstract: Apparatus for Therapeutic Treatment of Low Back Pain

US Patent #6,152,950

A therapeutic traction table for the treatment of low back pain includes a bed pivotable from a vertical to a horizontal position for facilitating the placement of a person in a horizontal position on the bed. An upper body harness and underarm supports anchor the upper body of the person to the bed. A lower body harness is attached to the lower body pelvic portion of the person, and includes an inflatable air bladder for positioning within the posterior cavity of the lumbar spine formed between the lower back of the person and the bed for relaxing low back muscles during a pulling force on the spine. A traction unit includes a strap connected to the lower body harness for providing a pulling force between the upper body and the lower body. The traction unit is vertically movable from a position generally along an axis of the spine to a vertically displaced position for pulling at a pre-selected and measurable angle to the axis of the spine and isolating the pulling force to a preselected portion of the spine during a programmable back treatment protocol.

Abstract: Integrated Lumbar Combined Variable Angular Distraction Structure

US Patent #7,462,189

A spinal treatment apparatus for applying a force to a patient includes a base portion, a telescoping support, a spinal distraction device and an actuator. The telescoping support is mounted on the base portion and includes a bottom member and a top member. The top member is engaged with the bottom member so that the top member has a retracted position and an extended position. The telescoping support is capable of withstanding a force, corresponding to the spinal treatment force, imparted on the top member, while in both the retracted position and the extended position. The spinal distraction device is mounted on the top member and applies the spinal treatment force to the patient. The actuator moves the top member vertically relative to the bottom member.
