Medtronic Breaks Ground on New Innovation Center

Medtronic plc has announced the groundbreaking of a new campus in Lafayette, Colorado. The new campus will unite 1000 employees from the Boulder and Louisville facilities. The company’s manufacturing operations, will remain at the Boulder and Louisville campuses.

Speaking for the medtech household name (just search our pages), Geoff Martha, Medtronic chairman and chief executive officer stated; “Medtronic medical technology developed and manufactured in Colorado transforms patient care globally, and we anticipate continued innovation at our new Lafayette campus.

“We look forward to coming together at a single campus to bolster our presence in Colorado and position Medtronic for growth. In addition, we are investing in this innovation center and new campus to attract and retain technology talent in this tech-rich region of Colorado.”

“This new campus will allow for good jobs, innovation, and employee wellness, all of which are critical to powering the Colorado Comeback.” 

The campus is being developed in partnership with Ryan Companies US, Inc. Ryan is a national developer, designer, builder, and property manager offering full-service commercial real estate solutions. The Lafayette campus will span 42 acres with 23 developable acres. Anticipated to be complete with employees moving in during the second half of 2022, the plan includes 400,000 square feet in two five-story connected buildings. These will host 1,100 employees. Campus employee benefits include a full-service cafeteria with indoor and outdoor seating as well as a fitness center. Outdoor open spaces and areas for team activities feature. Indoor and outdoor bicycle parking, a ¾ mile recreation loop, and access to trails and public transportation complete the picture. 

“With nearly 11,000 scientists and engineers worldwide and approximately 600 employees in R&D roles in Colorado, Medtronic has over 49,000 patents in our portfolio to date and is running more than 350 clinical trials. Once settled at our new Colorado campus, we will continue to collaborate with each other, our customers, and our partners to develop and produce innovative technologies backed by science,” said Martha. 

Medtronic says it is committed to providing a sustainable, comfortable, healthy, and productive workplace that complements the surrounding natural environment. To this end the building designs feature reduced water and irrigation use, solar parking canopies, and electric vehicle charging stations. It also includes pollinator gardens, energy efficient building systems, occupancy sensors, and LED lighting. To help ensure employee safety, the site will be equipped with state-of-the-art ventilation, filtration, and air distribution systems. Capable of 100 percent outside air economizing the system will bring in outdoor air, and fully automated and programmable air handles.
