This week’s sidelong glance at the medical device industry takes the form of an entertaining trip back through time. You see, back in the day when Venice ruled the world, the city had its very own “FDA”, including auditors who travelled through the colonies enforcing the Quality System that was Venice’s paranoid rule book. 650 years may have passed, and auditors don’t often wear long black cloaks and funny hats, but an impending FDA audit is still something that sends a nervous chill down the spine of most companies, despite the fact that today’s sanctions are a little less draconian.
