The Annual French Orthopaedic and Traumatology Society (SOFCOT) Congress and takes place next week at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. This is the 86th running of what has become one of Europe’s landmark Orthopaedic events, and the congress 2011 will follow the usual pattern of lectures and discussions this year. The meeting is an opportunity for delegates to spend time talking with colleagues and acquaintances as well as attending the commercial exhibition where they can investigate all that’s new in the industry. One of the stated objectives is to discuss how the organisation can best work with the Health Authorities on the subject of adoption of new techniques, especially in Hip and Knee Surgery. The meeting’s introductory notes comment on the need for a good relationship with the Health Authorities with whom SOFCOT recognises it must work to reach its goals in a spirit of partnership. The meeting is also an opportunity to reflect on the result of two investigations on the state of health and orthopedic demography in France.
