Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corporation (Nasdaq:IART) today announced the U.S. commercial market introduction of the Cordant™ Anterior Cervical Plating System, expanding Integra’s spine product portfolio to include three anterior cervical plating solutions. The Cordant™ Anterior Cervical Plating System provides temporary stability during spinal fusion procedures for patients suffering from disc disease or trauma.
The Cordant™ Anterior Cervical Plate System features a narrow hour-glass plate design, which provides excellent lateral graft visualization and potentially reduces the amount of tissue retraction required for implantation. This plate design may provide a better fit for smaller stature patients. The novel tri-cam locking mechanism and instrumentation provide a streamlined approach to anterior cervical fusion. The screwdriver handle is ergonomically designed with three flats that are orientated to the three flats on the locking screw head, providing easy alignment and locking confirmation, limiting uncertainty with simple innovative design.
“Surgeons need options to accommodate a broad range of patient anatomy,” said Brian Larkin, Global President, Spine and Orthobiologics, and Head of Strategic Development for Integra. “We are now better equipped to meet their needs by offering three anterior cervical plates.”
It is estimated that 90% of all cervical fixation procedures are performed with an anterior approach. In 2011, surgeons will perform an estimated 300,000 anterior cervical fixation procedures, with a market size of approximately $800 million.
Integra sells the Cordant™ Anterior Cervical Plate System in the U.S., and is a leading provider of fusion implants and orthobiologics used in spinal surgeries. Integra’s Cervical portfolio also includes the Manta Ray™ Anterior Cervical Plate, Sonoma™ Anterior Cervical Plate, Atoll™ Posterior Cervical System, Sierra™ Posterior Fusion System, Vu cPOD™ Intervertebral Body Fusion Device, Cambria™ Intervertebral Body Device, Capistrano™ Allograft Spacer, and the Zuma-CTM Anterior Cervical Fixation System.
