ZipLine Medical, Inc. tells us it has been awarded “2014 Best New Technology In Spine Care” by Orthopedics This Week for the Zip® Surgical Skin Closure device.
Background
ZipLine Medical defines itself as a developer of cost-effective, noninvasive surgical skin closure devices for suture-like outcomes at the speed of staples, with a reduced risk of surgical site infection. The company says over 10,000 surgical procedures have been performed worldwide with Zip® Surgical Skin Closure devices.
Zip® Surgical Skin Closure devices are classified by the U.S. FDA as ‘Class I, 510(k) Exempt’ and have received CE Mark.
The award was presented to ZipLine Medical’s President and CEO, John Tighe, at the North American Spine Society’s annual scientific meeting in San Francisco. The Zip® Surgical Skin Closure was selected by a distinguished panel of five board-certified orthopedic and spine surgeons on the basis of its originality, clinical relevance (including, Would the judges use the product themselves?) and likelihood of improving patient outcomes.
The award follows news announced last month that ZipLine Medical closed a $5.7 million extension to its Series C financing, the proceeds of which will be used to expand sales and marketing activities for commercialization of Zip®.
Company comments
“We are very pleased that Orthopedics This Week, the most widely read publication in Orthopedics, has recognized the noninvasive Zip® device as a transformative technology for surgical spine procedures,” said John Tighe, President and CEO of ZipLine Medical. “More and more surgical specialties are discovering that the Zip® not only offers significant benefits to patients but also is designed to reduce healthcare costs and infection rates.”
