This new implant provides patients with a durable, natural-feeling implant for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Background
Erectile dysfunction (ED) reportedly affects more than half of men over 40. Indeed estimates suggest there are over 69000 candidates in the U.S. alone each year. Despite the availability of various treatment options, many patients with ED have limited success or do not match eligibility criteria. Furthermore patients are often not able to take oral medications due to medical conditions. The new design features of the Tactra Penile Prosthesis allow physicians to provide these patients with a device to help restore their sexual function with excellent rigidity and dependable concealment in a device that is easy to use and natural to the touch.
Following U.S. FDA clearance back in April of this year, Boston Scientific has now launched its Tactra™ Malleable Penile Prosthesis. Tactra is the first new innovation in penile implants from Boston Scientific in more than 10 years and represents an evolution in the design of malleable penile implants to offer the patient and his partner a more authentic, natural feeling erection.
The Tactra Penile Prosthesis utilizes natural feeling dual-layer silicone and includes a Nitinol core to optimize comfort, rigidity and durability for effective penetration and concealment. The easy-to-use implant is manually lifted up for intercourse and manually pushed down when not in use.
