“Complex Spine” device expert K2M, Inc., has formally unveiled its partnership with Cadwell Laboratories, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of diagnostic and monitoring products for neurophysiology, to provide a neuromonitoring solution for the company’s Ravine® Lateral Access System.
This announcement coincides with the 2012 World Congress of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Techniques (WCMISST) Conference in Bahia, Brazil.
No stranger to our pages, focusing as it does on minimal access spinal surgery systems for complex disorders, K2M, Inc. has taken the opportunity provided by the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Techniques (WCMISST) Conference in Bahia, Brazil at which to announce a collaborative partnership with neurophysiology monitoring company Cadwell Laboratories.
The beauty of the partnership lies in the way K2M’s Ravine flat blade lateral access system has been enhanced by the integration of Cadwell’s probe system to provide surgical site monitoring. K2M says its Ravine platform provides unique rigid fixation to the patient, so offers enhanced access control for the surgeon and K2M’s dissectors are designed to be compatible with the Cadwell technologies to facilitate Ravine’s less disruptive muscle splitting transpsoas approach.
The Cadwell Probe System is fully integrated into Ravine and can be used after retractor placement, fitting down the channels of the lateral blades for further monitoring.
“K2M’s partnership with Cadwell will enable them to offer a complete neuromonitoring solution for their RAVINE Lateral Access System,” stated Dr. Faheem Sandhu, neurosurgeon and Associate Professor at Georgetown University Hospital. “These new additions will prove to be very helpful in putting neuromonitoring control into the surgeon’s hands.”
“Our rapid growth at K2M is allowing us to continually invest in new technology advancements and partnerships, which expand on our commitment to offering a best-in-class comprehensive minimally invasive portfolio for surgeons around the world,” said Eric Major, K2M’s President and CEO. “We are pleased to be partnering with Cadwell Laboratories to deliver a neuromonitoring solution that will enable us to leverage the success of our existing RAVINE Lateral Access System and provide surgeons with more intra-operative options.”
“K2M has proven to be one of the most innovative and fastest growing spine companies in the industry and we are very excited to be partnering with them,” stated Cory Hatcher, Chief Operating Officer of Cadwell Laboratories, Inc.
