Medical Sales Reps: Sympathy With The Devil

If you work in healthcare you’re probably plagued by the pestering presence of medtech sales reps. But if they weren’t around, would things be better or worse? We argue that for some specialties they’re becoming essential components in healthcare delivery rather than just bringers of doughnuts.

Sales reps: Pain in the backside. Annoying types who get in the way. Only after one thing. That’s the perception many have of the profession, and indeed it seems these folk don’t get it any easier in Medtech. A new paper has a right old pop at them, claiming drug enhancing stent reps influence cardiologists to use more drug-enhancing stents. Not only that, but when a company rep is present, his product is used more often.

Which bit of all this comes from the brains of rational human beings?

We discuss this and the role and value of the Medtech sales rep in this week’s View From The Med, our weekly backstage ramble through the Medtech show. Find it here, or wait ’til Monday to listen to the podcast.
