It’s not often we get “offline” stories that also relate to medical devices, so we couldn’t resist this one when we spotted it today. A “homeopathic” medical device not only triggered a security alert at New York’s La Guardia airport, but did so a second time when staff changed shift and the incoming crew found the “device” and eventually called in the bomb squad. The local papers are apparently enjoying the spectacle with lines such as; “(transport security agency) TSA bozos at one point left the pipes — which eventually turned out to be harmless — resting on a radiator as hundreds of fliers passed through security nearby.” One Port Authority police official tells the tabloid, “Six hours to report a potential bomb? It’s outrageous.”
