Biotronik, best known for its pacing devices and remote monitoring capability, has now launched what it describes as a semi-compliant coronary balloon dilatation catheter in Europe, following CE mark in January 2015.
Background
A complete redesign compared with previous generations of Pantera Balloon catheters, Pantera Pro is a semi-compliant coronary workhorse balloon catheter designed to dilate stenotic segments in coronary arteries or bypass grafts. It is available in diameters from 1.25 mm to 4.0 mm and lengths from 6 mm to 30 mm. It features an especially slim balloon shoulder design and a proprietary hydrophilic balloon coating on the 1.25 mm to 2.0 mm diameter sizes to ensure optimal crossability in tight lesions.
Biotronik’s press release states that based on the first dilatation procedures, physicians have indicated that Pantera Pro performs better in 68% of cases than other semi-compliant balloons.
Physician comments
The first dilatation procedures with Pantera Pro were performed in 13 countries, based on which more than 700 product uses were evaluated. Juan F. Iglesias, MD, University Hospital, Lausanne, Switzerland stated, “When treating patients with complex vascular anatomy, it can be difficult to ensure access to the lesion site and to achieve proper dilatation. Thanks to Pantera Pro’s slim shoulder design and hydrophilic coating, even lesions affecting tight or challenging vessels may be more easily and reliably crossed.”
Company comments
“The first users of Pantera Pro have discovered this workhorse balloon demonstrates excellent pushability and crossability, even in tight lesions,” commented Dr. Alexander Uhl, Vice President Marketing, Biotronik Vascular Intervention. “Following in the footsteps of the Pantera LEO non-compliant and the Pantera Lux drug-coated balloons, the European launch of Pantera Pro establishes the Biotronik coronary balloon portfolio as the most competitive and versatile on the market.”
