Who Owns Renal Denervation Part 2: The Plot Thickens

A therapy as potentially huge as renal denervation is bound to be tied up in claim and counterclaim, and downright confusion about who owns what. A new article tries to unpick it all.

Last week we introduced the subject of the intellectual property position relating to the future phenomenon that is renal denervation. If you recall, this is a technology-based therapy that seems to work by inducing electrophysiological changes into the heart which result in a lowering of blood pressure, even in patients for whom other therapies have not been successful.

We are drawn to return to the subject by the publication of a second piece on the website www.whatisrenaldenervation.com, which can be found here. In it, the discussion pertains to the cause and effect of the procedure and the potential claim of a University in Oklahoma which seems to have quietly placed its own stake in the heart over a dozen years ago.

Interesting stuff.
