Two main court cases attracted our interest this week. While the situations contrast, the common thread of patient suffering runs through both cases.

This week two events occurred in courtrooms that demonstrate the diversity of challenges faced by our regulators. On Wednesday the trial of alleged fraudster Jean-Claude Mas and his colleagues from disgraced breast implant manufacturer Poly-Implant-Prothese commenced in Marseille.  Also this week J&J DePuy won a majority verdict from the jury in another  of the nearly 11000 anticipated all-metal hip cases.

These were completely different cases with the common thread of patient suffering. But should events like these really drive our regulatory underpinnings?

You can decide for yourself, here.
