BD Completes Acquisition of Critical Care from Edwards Lifesciences

BD has acquired Edwards' Critical Care business

BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) has completed the acquisition of Edwards Lifesciences’ Critical Care product group. Full release here.

A frequent visitor to our pages, BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. The company will bring together the Edwards Critical Care products and its existing monitoring products into what it will call BD Advanced Patient Monitoring.

BD Sees Synergies

The expanded portfolio of smart connected care solutions dovetails with a growing set of leading monitoring technologies. The division will also include advanced AI-enabled clinical decision tools and what the company terms its robust innovation pipeline.

By integrating combined company data sets and interoperability capabilities the company clearly sees innovation opportunities for closed-loop haemodynamic monitoring and IV fluid and medication administration . The portfolio includes the gold-standard Swan Ganz pulmonary artery catheter, minimally invasive sensors, noninvasive cuffs, tissue oximetry sensors and monitors.

BD Advanced Patient Monitoring will operate as a separate business unit within BD’s Medical segment. This will align with its smart connected care approach. Katie Szyman, corporate vice president of the business under Edwards since 2015, has been named worldwide president of the new division. Katie will report to Mike Garrison, executive vice president and president of the BD Medical segment.
