Report Says Worldwide Orthopaedic Product Sales Reached $43.1 Billion in 2012

Orthopaedic product sales exceeded $43 billion in 2012, a modest increase of 3% or $1.2 billion over 2011, according to market intelligence specialist ORTHOWORLD®. Segments contributing greatest growth included trauma at $6.1 billion and sports medicine at $4.2 billion. Spine posted negative growth, while hips, knees, extremities and orthobiologics posted growth in the low-single digits.

Zimmer Acquires Extremity Device Company

Zimmer Holdings, Inc. has acquired NORMED Medizin-Technik GmbH, of Tuttlingen, Germany-based a provider of innovative technologies for the foot and ankle, hand and wrist reconstruction and trauma markets. NORMED’s range extends to specialized plates, screws and instruments, including systems for bone reconstruction and fracture repair, fusion procedures and external fixation.

Parametrics Medical, LLC Releases Coll-e-Strong Soft Tissue Allografts

Parametrics Medical, LLC, a private tissue bank has announced its release of its Coll-e-Strong line of soft tissue allografts. Using E-Beam Technology, to terminally sterilize the tissue without compromising the biomechanical properties of the collagen, the company claims its allograft line is the first to bridge the gap between biomechanics and sterility.

Zimmer Acquires Knee Creations

Zimmer Holdings, Inc. has announced that it has acquired the business assets of West Chester, Pennsylvania-based Knee Creations, LLC. Zimmer says the acquisition enhances its product portfolio of knee treatments through the addition of Knee Creations’ Subchondroplasty® procedure.
