The medical device industry brings life-saving and health-giving technology to the world. The funny thing is that from a global perspective it really only works because the west’s great testing ground that is Europe allows devices onto the market at a relatively early stage. Take that access away and innovation will be unaffordable.
Yet industry workers seem more wrapped up in the detail than in the big picture. By aiming for perfection, we argue the EU regulators are trying to attain the unattainable and in so doing stifling the innovation that is allowed to flourish under the current, rather more pragmatic set-up.
