Device sales, especially in the US, were pretty weak in Q3. And when you’re J&J you’ll always have some special items on your expenses line. The net result looks a bit like a battening down of the hatches, although the business overall is showing healthy growth, fuelled by pharma.

Following its CE mark earlier in the summer, Codman Neuro has launched its next generation thrombectomy device at minimally invasive neuro meeting, 2013 ESMINT in Nice last week.

In its quarterly financial statement Johnson & Johnson says its sales of $17.9 billion for the second quarter of 2013, represent an increase of 8.5% as compared to the second quarter of 2012. This figure includes the impact of the acquisition of Synthes, Inc., net of the divestiture of the DePuy trauma business.

Codman Neuro has announced the gaining of CE mark approval for its self-expanding clot removal device. The Revive SE nitinol basket for removal of clots in the treatment of ischemic stroke features newly enhanced navigation which should speed up restoration of blood flow.

J&J Company, Cordis Corporation has received FDA clearance of its latest innovation in guiding catheters: the ADROIT™ 6F Guiding Catheter, which the company says means easier advancement of devices, with its 0.072′ diameter, the largest inner diameter of any guiding catheter in the U.S. .

Mitek Sports Medicine has unveiled the Healix 3.4mm Suture Anchor, its smallest dual-thread offering for rotator cuff repair. This coincides with the introduction of a new double-loaded minimally invasive partial thickness rotator cuff repair system, as part of its Healix Transtend™ Implant System.

J&J division, Sedasys says its sedation system is indicated for the intravenous administration of 1% (10 mg/mL) propofol injectable emulsion for the initiation and maintenance of minimal-to-moderate sedation in defined patient groups undergoing colonoscopy and esophagogastroduodenoscopy procedures.

The FDA has issued a Class I recall notice relating to the Animas® 2020 Insulin Pump. It seems there are two problems with the device. A Class I recall notice, is the FDA’s most serious type of recall and reserved for cases where human health is at risk by continued use of the device.

Covidien has won a patent infringement suit against Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, relating to Ethicon’s Harmonic® line of ultrasonic surgical products.

It’s AAOS week, and Mitek Sports Medicine has chosen the event for the launch of the MILAGRO® Advance Interference Screw, a new biocomposite screw designed to offer easier and faster insertion when compared to traditional interference screws.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. has announced the 510(k) clearance from the U.S. FDA for its ENSEAL® G2 Cordless Tissue Sealer Device. Already previously approved in a variety of iterations, the new cordless design is clearly pitched at procedures where speed and range of motion may be critical.

Case number 2. Only 10,748 to go. This time its Chicago and one Carol Strum vs DePuy. Early shots suggest they’re aiming at punitive damages based on the assertion that DePuy knew of the design flaws in its product before Ms Strum had one implanted in her.

Law firm, Legal Bay has issued this release following the jury’s massive award to Loren Kransky, plaintiff against J&J DePuy. It’s predicting many many more such cases.

Loren Kransky has been awarded over $8M in his lawsuit against J&J Depuy over the ASR hip prosthesis. J&J won’t know whether to laugh or cry right now. At least Mr Kransky wasn’t awarded punitive damages, but future cases might challenge that finding again..and again.
