More Cold Water Poured On Consumer Reports’ “Dangerous Devices” Hyperbole

When it comes to Medical Device Regulation, a balanced assessment without fear nor favour is all we were looking for, so its refreshing to see someone else trying to counter the media frenzy.

After we last week editorialised on the subject of CBS’s coverage of the Consumer Reports’ damning indictment of the medical device industry and its regulators, now Medical Device + Diagnostics Industry (MD+DI) Editor-in-Chief, Heather Thompson has provided a more thorough working over of the subject. Her feature, entitled ” Consumer Reports’ Article about Dangerous Devices Is Dangerous Reporting”, picks apart the arguments and carries the underlying message that “Consumer Reports misrepresented some key details in the regulatory process, thereby causing additional confusion and creating a dangerous precedent in media coverage of the medical device industry.”

Nicely balanced appraisal, available here.
