In the title of this week’s piece we ask whether patients will ever be specifiying the devices that will be used on them. We rather hope they won’t, but then again a bit more information wouldn’t go amiss. After all, who’s body is it?

This week we ponder the black art of medical marketing communications and wonder why it’s all so self-important. Especially, how come the person on the receiving end of medical technology is so ignorant about it? Why do we keep people in the dark about what we do and the incredible advances we report on every week?
